What is a Retinol Peel?
The retinol facial peel is also known as the "yellow peel" because its primary active ingredient, retinoic acid, gives the solution its bright yellow color. The active components do not destroy the dead skin cells but instead penetrate the basal layer of the skin, initiating intensive regeneration processes.
In addition to retinol, retinol peels include additional components that expand their application:
- Phytic and kojic acids are used for skin lightening.
- Aloe vera and pharmaceutical chamomile extracts provide a soothing effect.
- Salicylic acid exfoliates dead skin cells.
The concentration of retinoic acid in professional products typically ranges from 5% to 10%. Some peels work only on the surface, while others penetrate deep into the epidermis, even reaching the dermis. The type of product is selected by the cosmetologist during the consultation.
Effects of a Retinol Peel
Retinol peels should be done in a course of 3-5 sessions with a 14-day interval between each session. Visible effects appear after the first session, and after completing the course, the results last for up to 3 months.

How Does the Retinol Facial Peel Procedure Work?
To undergo a retinol peel, you need to prepare your skin in advance. For 14 days before the procedure, it is recommended to use creams containing acids. This pre-treatment helps the active substances in the peel penetrate the deeper layers of the skin more easily.
Just before the session, the cosmetologist cleanses the client's face and applies a lotion with acids to make the horny layer more loose. Then, a cream mask with a rich yellow hue is applied thinly to the face, including the eye area. The minimum exposure period for the peel is 15-20 minutes. Afterward, the product is removed with a neutral pH solution.
In some cases, the cosmetologist may apply the retinol cream mask a second time after the initial removal. It's also possible to combine several types of acid peels (such as mandelic or pyruvic) to achieve the best results.
Retinoic acid, the key component of the retinol peel we're discussing, works more effectively when combined with mesotherapy and biorevitalization. The peel itself is virtually painless. Some clients may experience slight tingling in the area where the active solution is applied and a mild burning sensation.
